Scouting

I work with publishers all over the world as a literary scout and trendwatcher with my focus on the business book genre. I currently work with clients in Spain, Brazil, Russia, and Germany.

I built considerable expertise in the business book segment over the last several years. I worked for 800-CEO-READ, a U.S. based bookseller who specializes in the business book category and in my last year served as president of the company. The marketing of the company was through recommending and recognizing business books people should read. We did this a variety of ways including a company weblog that we started back when I joined the company in 2004, an annual awards program called The 800-CEO-READ Business Book Awards and a print publication called In The Books.

In 2009, I co-wrote  The 100 Best Business Books of All Time, published by Portfolio in the United States. The book has sold over 25,000 copies in the U.S. market and has been translated into ten different languages. Information about the book including a list of the books we included can be found at 100bestbiz.com.

Let me give you three additional touchpoints to illustrate the depth of my knowledge in the business book category:

  • How To Read A Business Book – an essay I wrote for ChangeThis in February 2010 showing a number of techniques on getting more out of what you read.
  • 40 Best Business Books Since January 2009 – This post covers the best in the category for the last 24 months.
  • Everything I Know About Business Books (So Far) – This book was first published in October 2010 as a collection of my writings about business books over the last eight years. The book is republished every three to six months with updates and revisions, a process made possible by InDesign and Lulu. You can read a sample of the book at Scribd.com.
