Open Source Processes

I know it is a lot of Open Source for one day, but since we are on the topic I thought I would share one more link.

I like this link from Linux Business Week. It is an excerpt from a book called Understanding Open Source Software Development by Joseph Feller and Brian Fitzgerald.

I liked this piece because it talks more about application of Open Source. They point out four things that make Open Source projects unique:

  1. Parallel Development
  2. Large Distributed Development Communities
  3. Independent Peer Review
  4. Prompt Feedback

The excerpt is software focused, but I think it sheds light on the unique processes of Open Source projects. As OS projects develop in other areas, it will be interesting to see if different processes emerge.
